A sudden change in the road landed me in this house. The jamindar bunglow was used by satyajit ray for shooting two of his movies, Devi and Jalsagar. The house overlooks the padma river and Bangladesh on the other side. The owners of this house were rich traders who traded silk with the west in the 19th century. The story Jalsagar is based on the life of the last jamindar of this region, his joyous youth and slow decay of wealth, with the rise of the merchant to fame, power and prestige.
